Thought Field Therapy (TFT)

Thought Field Therapy has been developed and refined since the early 80's by clinical psychologist Dr. Roger J.Callahan (TFT is sometimes referred to as Callahan Techniques™). Following a study of Applied Kinesiology and Acupressure Points, he discovered some amazing results with a patient, who had been resistant to his standard psychotherapy techniques for some eighteen months, by tapping on a single acupressure point whilst she thought about her problem.. The positive results from this were instant and permanent, and he went on to develop the ideas, concepts and 'algorithms' of Thought Field Therapy as it is today.

TFT assumes that our physical, emotional and psychological problems or distress are caused by imbalances, or 'perturbations' as Dr. Callahan terms them, in our body's subtle energy fields, and these can be corrected by gently tapping specific meridians (points). The results he has achieved are amazing not only to his patients but also to the medical establishment who have used modern diagnostic means to confirm positive changes to, for example, Heart Rate Variation (HRV), that they did not think were possible.

I often employ a Heart Rate Variation monitor in my practice (via a simple pulse sensor that fits on the index finger) so that you can see for yourself the positive changes in your physiology and the balance in your autonomic nervous system after successful application of this, or other, therapy.

Thousands of practitioners worldwide, including many medical doctors, psychologists and psychotherapists, use these techniques with their patients to great effect on a wide variety of symptoms. There is no 'reliving' of any traumatic memories and the process is completely safe providing you can be gently tapped on the face and hands. The techniques have been so effective that they became the treatment of choice in Kosovo refugee camps from 2001 after a team of skilled practitioner healed many people suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), even though there was a language barrier.

The medical director, Dr Shkelzen Syla, was so impressed and amazed at the results that he immediately set up a training programme for others to learn and utilise the techniques. He wrote to Dr Callahan in November 2001:
"Many well-funded relief organisations have treated PTSD in Kosovo. Some people had limited improvement, but we had no major change or real hope until Dr Carl Johnson [Norwegian psychologist] came with TFT. We referred our most difficult trauma patients to him. The success for every patient was 100 per cent and they are still smiling to this day. As chief of medical staff, I have full authority over medical decisions in Kosovo. The skilled practitioner can help you locate the source of negative emotions and help you release them painlessly and permanently. You do not forget the events, but are able to recall them without any associated negative emotion. The technique involves some gentle 'tapping' of acupressure points on the face, collar bone and hands whilst being guided to focus on various aspects of your problem or issue.
